Glacier NP 1: Easy hike up to Avalanche Lake

Glacier National Park is about 8.5 hours' drive north of Jackson, WY. On Tuesday we set out after some delays in the morning, and ended up at our reserved campsite about 11:30. The next day, we slept a bit late, then headed to the Ranger Station to ask for advice about where we could get a campsite for that night. We ended up snagging virtually the last available site at Avalanche campground. Then we hiked from the campground up along Avalanche Creek to Avalanche Lake.

A cool gorge in the creek. Similar to Sculptured Rocks in Groton, NH, but not so amenable to swimming.

Avalanche Lake.

It was cold. We didn't stay in for long.
