Hiking over Mt. Glory and down via Ski Lake

Yesterday, Rosie, Sammy, and I joined Tom for a hike off Teton Pass. We spotted a car at Philips Canyon trailhead, then drove to the top of the pass to start hiking up Glory. Then we went north on the ridge, then descended by Ski Lake back to Philips Canyon trailhead.

You know it's a consistent, steep hike when you can look over your shoulder at any point and see the car in the parking lot. Glory is steep.
Hey, where did you get that backpack?

This is a gas exploder, used by WYDOT for avalanche control on these slide paths which run onto WY 22. You don't want to be around when it is detonated. Sammy is clearly impressed.

Looking out over the ridge south of the pass. Can still see the parking lot.

This is a bowl called Little Tuckerman's. The real Tuckerman Ravine is actually a bit more impressive, however, this one has better snow.

Some snow. If you look carefully, you will find Sammy on top, cooling his paws.

I think this is called Unskiabowl?

Rosie and the Tom Factor taking a rest.

One of these high points is called the Great White Hump (in winter).

As we approached Ski Lake, Sammy took off, plowing through brush, from a couple hundred meters away. He either really wanted to wade in the lake, or he wanted to make friends with the other dog down there.

It took us a while to catch up.

There will be butterflies.

Rosie suggested that Ski Lake (via the short approach, not over the mountains) would be a good hike for Nick and Eileen to do in August, if you're open to a hike which is a bit more challenging than Sabattus.

  1. Yeah, well, if it's not MUCH more than mighty Sabattus! And if we've got a good guide.
